This Painting is about the Abuse I suffered and endured in a 17 year marriage. There are tree branches in bright colors and the roots of these branches go into my head. These thoughts or things that happened to me are rooted into my brain. Some things I have healed from, and some I am still healing from. Some of the writings are actual things that my ex-husband did to me, some are feelings, emotions, or diagnosis from dotcors and psychologists. I also have written prayers and promises God has given to me.  On the right side I have part of the Scripture from 2 Corinthians 10:5. This is a scriputure I will repeat over and over when my mind gets triggered, or it gets stuck ruminating. I wanted to show the viewer what I have gone through, what a person like me might be thinking or fighting. What a struggle abuse victims go through to try to regain their lives back.  Mental health is a serious thing and it isn't talked about enough. Unfortunately domestic violence is prevelent and Christian people like me can be Sprititualy abused by the Church or their spouses. It can be hard for a Christian to leave an abusive situation. Church leaders can be dismissive of the abuse that happens in a Christian home, and can give scriptural references that go against what God would have us do. Spouses also can twist scripture and gaslight their spouses into believing that God wants them to stay in an abusive situation. This is totally untrue. I painted this in hopes to bring myself healing and I hope it will help other people understand what a brain from an abuse vicitim my be going through.
